If I manually create the RedirectionMode key and then re-launch Edge, it correctly follows the policy and sets RedirectionMode to 0. The BHO add-in, checks the site that the user is trying to visit for compatibility issues with Internet Explorer by looking in the list of sites with known IE incompatibilities, and if the site is not compatible, displays the message 'We recommend viewing this website in Microsoft Edge' in Internet Explorer, and then forcibly opens the site in Edge browser. If you want to disable this automatic redirection feature, following steps will help you: 1. If the BHO doesn't find the key, the default is to redirect. The redirection from Internet Explorer to Microsoft Edge will be removed completely and permanently. Only websites that are part of the Need Microsoft Edge list are redirected. When an Internet Explorer user goes to a website that's incompatible with Internet Explorer, Windows can automatically redirect the user to Microsoft Edge. Keep in mind this will disable all extensions. Click on Apply and OK to save the changes. Scroll down to Browsing and uncheck Enable third-party browser extensions. Further digging shows that the HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Edge\IEToEdge | RedirectionMode key, which is what the BHO itself uses, is not being created nor set to 0 when the policy is read by Edge. To minimize disruptions, Microsoft Edge supports a new capability that automatically redirects users. Click on the gear icon (alt X), select Internet Options. While "Never" is displayed correctly in Edge settings, it doesn't work. Remember, we had no way to fully test this prior to the 87 release since we're domain-joined. We also added the RedirectSitesFromInternetExplorerRedirectMode policy, again before the 87 release, just to cover our bases. Double-click the policy setting > choose Not Configured, Enabled, or Disabled > and click OK to apply your. Select the Local Group Policy object to edit > the policy setting to adjust beneath Administrative Templates > and the policy setting to change from the Setting column. This isn't documented in the release notes or the ADMX itself, but it's logical since the installer/updater typically runs as system. Open the Local Group Policy Object Editor from Run > gpedit.msc > OK. While the RedirectSitesFromInternetExplorerPreventBHOInstall policy appears in the User Config, it looks like it fails because the setup doesn't detect the setting unless it's set in the Computer Config. We generally prefer to add settings to the ADMX User Configuration, since it makes exceptions easier to manage. We implemented both policies prior to the Edge 87 release.
